Girls’ Day 2026

On April 23, 2026, the group of Kamyar Hadian (PI in projects B05 and Z02) welcomed enthusiastic students to Helmholtz Munich as part of Germany’s annual Girls’ Day initiative. The aim of the day was to provide young women with first-hand insights into biomedical research and to inspire interest in careers in science.

After a short introduction to cancer research and the work of UbiQancer CRC/TRR 387, the participants explored a modern research laboratory and experienced everyday life as scientists. They then performed two hands-on experiments themselves: examining cultured cells with fluorescent cellular structures under the microscope and isolating DNA from fruit using basic molecular biology techniques. Throughout the day, the students had the opportunity to ask questions about different careers in science, interact with researchers, and gain realistic laboratory experience.

We thank all students for their curiosity and enthusiasm and hope that this exciting day encouraged many of them to consider a future in biomedical research.
