Lab Exchange at the Diefenbacher Laboratory
Shaliya Puthanveedu-Hashardeen (Project B04, Prof. Schindelin) visited the laboratory of Prof. Diefenbacher (A07, B04) from February to May 2024 as part of a collaborative research exchange within CRC/TRR 387.
During her stay, she gained hands-on experience with the culture and handling of non-small cell lung cancer cell lines, transfections, CRISPR guide design, co-immunoprecipitation experiments and warhead assays. The aim was to establish experimental approaches needed for Project B04 and transfer these techniques to the cell culture facility in Würzburg. The work also generated interesting initial results on how UBA6 mutations affect cancer cell proliferation and morphology, providing a foundation for her subsequent experiments in Würzburg.
As B04 is a tandem project, the visit also strengthened the connection between the Schindelin and Diefenbacher laboratories. The collaborative atmosphere, weekly meetings and journal clubs provided valuable opportunities for scientific discussion and exchange beyond the experiments themselves, further supporting the collaborative goals of CRC/TRR 387.
